Johanna Broziat

Possehl Prize for Lübeck Art 2024

A SEARCH FOR CLUES & NEW SPATIAL ARCHITECTURES

Johanna Broziat

The artist Johanna Broziat (*1982) experiments with a wide variety of materials in her works and creates small, detailed objects, prints and books in addition to expansive and colourful works. The jury saw Broziat's approach and choice of materials, which primarily relate to the re-use of objects, fabrics and items, as an interesting and multi-faceted young artistic position. With her prize-winning project, Broziat has created a new sculpture especially for St Catherine's Church: With the work ABER DIE MAUERN LEUCHTEN, the artist takes up the architecture and colourfulness of the former church and spans a large area around its lower choir - the heart of the former Franciscan church and unique in the German-speaking world. Through her art, the artist creates a sensory experience for visitors and enables new approaches to the history of the city.

The installation ABER DIE MAUERN LEUCHTEN can be seen at the Museum Katharinenkirche in Lübeck until 12 October.

Distinction for Regine Bonke

Moderne Skulpturen in einem hellen, historischen Raum mit Deckengemälde.

Regine Bonke has made an important contribution to concrete art in Lübeck and well beyond for more than four decades. The jury would like to honour this by also enabling the artist to realise her project proposal. She plans to install ten large geometric objects made of paper in a room - visitors will be involved in the creation of the work by projecting onto the objects a square they have drawn. Despite being geometrically unambiguous, this square will produce great visual multiplicity.
