Possehl Prize for Lübeck Art 2024
A SEARCH FOR CLUES & NEW SPATIAL ARCHITECTURES
Johanna Broziat
The artist Johanna Broziat (*1982) experiments with different media and creates small, detailed objects, prints and books in addition to voluminous and colourful works. She collects and rearranges objects, such as shards found in the forest, or sews large wall and room coverings from discarded swimming costume fabrics. With her prize-winning project, the artist will respond to historical sites in Lübeck by adopting their formal vernacular and translating it artistically. She plans to create a work - e.g. a large fabric installation - in a place that she will visit regularly over several months to explore it. In this way, she hopes to create a sensory experience and new approaches to the city's history for visitors. The jury sees Broziat's approach and choice of materials, which primarily relate to the re-use of objects, fabrics and artefacts, as an interesting and multifaceted young artistic position. The winner will receive prize money of €8,000 for the realisation of the planned project, which she expects to complete in 2025.
Distinction for Regine Bonke
Regine Bonke has made an important contribution to concrete art in Lübeck and well beyond for more than four decades. The jury would like to honour this by also enabling the artist to realise her project proposal. She plans to install ten large geometric objects made of paper in a room - visitors will be involved in the creation of the work by projecting onto the objects a square they have drawn. Despite being geometrically unambiguous, this square will produce great visual multiplicity.
